Fair Trade Commission Annual Report 2023
  (3) The Commission executed the plan to audit the conditions surrounding the production and marketing of important agricultural and animal husbandry products for the Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival and Moon Festival. Visits were paid and letters were sent to concerned trade associations to request that they notify their members to respect market mechanisms and not to engage in any conduct in violation of the regulations against concerted actions. News tickers were also displayed on TV to urge related businesses not to engage in concerted actions.
(4) The Commission investigates illegal activities and imposes sanctions to deter unlawful acts. In 2023, the Commission clamped down on a number of illegal concerted actions involving telecom companies, ready mixed concrete suppliers, snorkeling tour services, food product businesses, building appraisal services, and medical institutions. The fines imposed totaled 295, 600,000 dollars.
(5) In response to egg shortages and price fluctuations in early 2023, the Commission paid visits to wholesalers, retailers and related trade associations to understand the causes of egg price fluctuations up and down the supply chain and also urged concerned businesses not to take the opportunity when faced with egg shortages and price hikes to engage in concerted actions. At the same time, the Commission also set up a 24-hour hotline for the public to report joint price gouging by businesses to prevent joint price manipulation. Furthermore, the Commission also worked with the interministerial Joint Price Audit Team and continued to assign staff members to perform onsite audits.
