3. Merger control focusing on large enterprises
Given the tendency in markets for large firms to become even bigger, horizontal
strategies for enterprises to enhance their competitiveness. With this in mind, the FTC has
prudently and also keeps track of the effects of mergers that are not prohibited in order to
In 2024, the FTC received 60 merger notifications and closed 62 cases, including unclosed cases in the previous year, prohibited 1 merger, approved 57 mergers and suspended review in 4 cases that were outside the FTC’s jurisdiction or lacked complete documents. The review system included both simplified and regular procedures depending on the level of concern regarding competition restraints. Among the 62 closed cases in 2024, them were completed within the statutory period.
The important mergers reviewed in 2024 included the prohibited merger of Yieh United Steel Corp., Yieh Phui Enterprise Co., Ltd. and their subsidiaries with Tang Eng Iron Works Co., Ltd., the prohibited merger between UberEats and foodpanda, two major food delivery platforms, the approved merger between Uni-President Enterprises Corp. and Yahoo! Taiwan Ltd. and 3 other companies with Hi-Life International Co., Ltd. The details of the approved mergers are provided below.

Note: The FTC decided to prohibit the merger between UberEats and foodpanda, two major food delivery platforms, on Dec. 25, 2024 and issued the merger prohibition decision in Jan. 2025. Therefore, the case was included in the 2024 case closure statistics.
